Choosing the Right Flute

One of the biggest challenges for a beginner is selecting a good-quality Carnatic bamboo flute.

Even when purchasing directly from a flute maker, it can be difficult for beginners to judge the quality, tuning, response, and ease of playing.

For this reason, we strongly recommend purchasing your flute through your instructor whenever possible.

This has been the traditional approach followed by Carnatic musicians for generations. An experienced instructor can recommend an instrument that matches your learning stage and help you avoid unnecessary difficulties during the initial stages of practice.

If you already own a flute, don’t worry—we will also help you determine whether it is suitable for this course.
